Sustainability Programs

KUPP America's sustainability programs represent more than just statistics; they reflect our commitment to sustainability and ethical manufacturing practices. Through these initiatives, KUPP America is leading the way in industrial eco-friendly practices. By utilizing HDPE resin to minimize harmful emissions, repurposing discarded HDPE ducts and pipes into new products, and conserving potable water, we are driving toward a more environmentally friendly future.

KUPP America Zero HDPE Resin Loss and Recycling Program

KUPP America's HDPE ducts and pipes can be crafted from recycled material and are recyclable as well. Our products can be produced from recycled materials while upholding consistent performance levels. Unlike PVC, HDPE retains technical properties akin to the initial material, resulting in fewer chemical changes.

Recycling HDPE ducts and pipes is straightforward without any contaminants, and the mechanical recycling process is both efficient and cost-effective.

KUPP America aims to emulate global standards by implementing a Zero HDPE Resin Loss and Recycling Program in its operations. This demonstrates exceptional leadership in industry-led voluntary efforts to reduce resin waste in the environment.

In 2024, KUPP America partnered with local recycling companies to recycle a remarkable 3,669 kg of HDPE ducts and pipe residuals.

KUPP America Rainwater Harvesting Program

KUPP America incorporates rainwater in the production of HDPE ducts and pipes in our factory in Turrialba, Cartago, where we have an innovative collection system that channels rainwater into a 10 m³ internal tank. Water plays a vital role in the HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) extrusion manufacturing process, particularly in the cooling and solidification of the extruded product.

The Turrialba region experiences a significant amount of rainfall, especially from May through August, which are the wettest months. Turrialba typically receives about 213.52 millimeters (8.41 inches) of precipitation and has 248.59 rainy days (68.11% of the time) annually.

This method not only reduces our dependence on the drinking water supply but also reflects our continued commitment to environmental conservation.

KUPP America Carbon Footprint Reduction Program

KUPP America manufactures HDPE ducts and tubes using a Continuous Extrusion process. This technique involves heating high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and passing it through a die to form tubes of the required size and shape. Extrusion allows for the uninterrupted creation of pipes, making it a highly efficient method for the mass production of HDPE pipelines. Additionally, Continuous Extrusion is an environmentally friendly process that does not produce harmful gas emissions.

Unlike PVC and other plastics, HDPE manufacturing does not necessitate the use of plasticizers or stabilizers in either the resin or pipe production. This simplifies the overall HDPE manufacturing process, reducing the need for additional additives.

KUPP America is committed to innovating and leading the way in environmental stewardship!
